Artiste | Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc | Montréal https://annkarinebl.com/Hommage PROJET SPÉCIAL - LEVÉE DE FONDS POUR LA MAISON DE SOINS PALLIATIFS Il y a un an, le 16 janvier 2025, ma mère est décédée à la Maison de soins palliatifs de Vaudreuil-Soulanges. Quand j’avais à peine quelques mois, j’ai été hospitalisé pour une bronchiolite sévère et ma mère s’était promis à l’époque qu’à chaque année au mois de janvier elle remettrait un montant d’argent à la Fondation Sainte-Justine, ce qu’elle a fait jusqu’à son décès l’an dernier. Pour honorer sa parole et faire perdurer ce don, je mets aujourd’hui à la vente une œuvre que j’ai réalisée en sa mémoire pour ramasser des fonds pour la Maison de soins palliatifs de Vaudreuil-Soulanges. Sa métamorphose, de la chenille à la chrysalide, puis au papillon, offre une image sensible du déplacement d’un état à un autre. Le papillon apparaît ici dans son dernier cycle, au seuil de sa métamorphose. Sa légèreté, la brièveté de son existence et la délicatesse de ses ailes renvoient à la vulnérabilité de la vie humaine. Son envol, presque imperceptible, évoque une libération, celle d’un corps traversé par la maladie, celle d’un poids enfin soulagé. Le papillon se détache doucement et devient alors un point d’ancrage intime, une image fragile et suspendue, à travers laquelle le deuil peut exister et où la mémoire ne se cristallise pas dans la douleur, mais se transforme en présence légère, apaisante et symbolique. J’utilise un vocabulaire formel emprunté à l’archéologie, à l’architecture et au design afin de créer des environnements qui évoquent à la fois le chantier, la fouille et l’archive tout en m’imprégnant d’un contexte spécifique. Au sein de ma pratique, j’ai un intérêt marqué pour le patrimoine bâti, puisque sa valeur est caractérisée par une époque, une culture et un contexte géographique qui est alors indissociable de son lieu d’origine. L’observer, le reproduire et le revaloriser me permet d’en suspendre le temps, de l’étudier et de le recontextualiser dans une perspective contemporaine. Je m’intéresse également au caractère reproductible des images et des objets, ainsi qu’aux cycles de transformation qu’ils peuvent avoir. Mes préoccupations environnementales m’amènent à développer des stratégies de réemploi et de recyclage des matériaux accumulés au fil du temps. Ce processus me permet d’interroger l’origine des objets, leur charge symbolique et leur potentiel pictural et sculptural, tout en réfléchissant à notre rapport à la matière et à sa transformation. L’utilisation de matériaux bruts tels que le bois, le plâtre, le ciment, le gypse sont majoritairement issus de chantiers et ceci constitue un axe central de ma pratique. Ces matériaux portent en eux la mémoire des espaces et des gestes qui les ont façonnés. Issue d’une famille de charpentiers-menuisiers, je privilégie des matériaux intimement liés à mon histoire personnelle. Mes souvenirs d’enfance, faits de dessins et de maisons construites en carton, nourrissent aujourd’hui ma pratique où le geste artistique dialogue avec celui du domaine de la construction. En mettant en lumière des éléments souvent négligés; fragments, éléments architecturaux, détails, ruines, surfaces usées, mon travail invite à ralentir le regard et à porter une attention renouvelée à ce qui nous entoure. À travers ces formes sensibles, je cherche à proposer une expérience esthétique singulière qui ouvre une réflexion sur la mémoire des lieux, la matérialité et le passage du temps. /// Artistic statement I build sculptural installations that combine printed images and drawings. The installations I create are assemblages of found objects and repurposed building materials, rooted in a specific context. In my practice, I place great importance on architectural heritage, as its value is defined by a specific era, culture, and place. It is inseparable from its site of origin, carrying with it layers of memory. Observing, reproducing, and revaluing it allows me to pause, study it, and recontextualize it in the present day. Heritage is, in a way, a metaphorical window into a past that is constantly shifting. I seek to highlight these elements to bring together the past, present, and future. I am interested in the reproducibility of images and objects through multiple cycles of transformation. I am continually developing new strategies for recycling and reusing the objects and materials I have accumulated over time. This process allows me to question the origin of objects and materiality, and to explore their pictorial and sculptural potential. All the elements aim to create a unique aesthetic experience while also inviting reflection on material conditions. By using raw materials—wood, plaster, cement, gypsum—primarily sourced from construction sites, I offer a poetic reinterpretation of buildings and the memory of spaces, while prompting reflection on materiality, the environment, and the passage of time. Coming from a family of carpenters and joiners, I naturally gravitate toward materials that were part of my childhood. For as long as I can remember, I used to draw and build cardboard houses with my sister. Cette nouvelle œuvre explore avec sensibilité les notions d’architecture, de fragment, d’empreinte, de trace, de ruine et de mémoire. À travers une juxtaposition de matériaux de construction et d’images imprimées, l’installation présente des structures à la fois en construction et en déconstruction. Les objets, quant à eux, sont présentés comme des fragments d’architecture – morceaux de mur, éclats de carrelage, moulures – figés dans le temps, porteurs d’une histoire silencieuse. Avec cette installation, Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc explore différentes matérialités et techniques d’impression; sérigraphie, découpe au laser, pochoirs, etc. L’impression, voire l’empreinte, est réfléchie au sens élargi. Elle propose à la fois des empreintes physiques – qui sont une trace laissée par une matrice ou un moulage, mais aussi des empreintes métaphoriques – qui se creusent par les souvenirs laissés par les gens qui nous quittent. Ces souvenirs qui ne se gravent pas prend une dimension plus personnelle et intime pour l’artiste, puisque l’installation rend hommage à sa mère récemment décédée. Fragmentée et déconstruite, l’œuvre reflète l’état émotionnel de l’artiste. Certains éléments qui composent l’installation ont été manipulés par cette dernière et de les inclure est pour l'artiste une manière de souligner l'apport d'une mère dans la carrière de sa fille. Ce travail de collecte et d’assemblage s’apparente à un processus de deuil, où l’acte artistique devient un geste de réparation. Ainsi, l’œuvre invite à une contemplation lente, presque archéologique, où chaque détail devient témoin et révélateur du processus de l’artiste. Ce travail documentaire lui a permis de s’imprégner du patrimoine bâti du Vieux-Longueuil pour créer de nouvelles œuvres pendant sa résidence à Zocalo situé à Longueuil. Détail I, II, III et IV : Vieux-Longueuil, Québec sont des gravures au laser sur bois imprimées sur papier Stonehenge. Les images documentaires prises en amont du projet agissent comme un inventaire de mes observations. L’artiste a choisi la gravure sur bois, puisque ce matériau est préconisé dans la construction et la restauration des éléments patrimoniaux. Une fois gravées, ces plaques de bois ont été imprimées de façon aléatoire à plusieurs reprises en interchangeant les couches et les couleurs pour créer des strates de souvenirs. Les couleurs qui se retrouvent dans ces œuvres sont directement inspirées par une maison située au coin des rues Saint-Laurent O et Saint-Alexandre. Au final, ces œuvres sont une sorte d’hommage destiné aux vestiges architecturaux et permettent de souligner toute la richesse historique du Vieux-Longueuil. L’artiste souhaite profondément que dans un futur immédiat, notre patrimoine architectural soit conservé, mis de l’avant et (re)valorisé dans notre culture plutôt que détruit. L’exposition Ces jardins de ruines, volet II présente un corpus d’œuvres d’Ann Karine Bourdea Leduc s’inspirant de l’univers du jardin. L’artiste y déploie une iconographie riche, où des éléments architecturaux comme des pierres, des pavés, des colonnes et des tonnelles servent de supports à des images imprimées et des sculptures. Ces ruines sont en réalité des vestiges et des fragments que l’artiste collecte et réassemble, leur offrant une nouvelle vie. Cette exploration artistique a germé lors de résidences en Italie, à Métis-sur-Mer et aux Îles- de-la-Madeleine, où l’artiste a exploré une riche diversité de matières et de techniques d’impression. Ici, l’impression, et plus largement l’empreinte, est au coeur de sa démarche. À travers sa recherche, l’artiste décloisonne les frontières entre l’image imprimée et la sculpture, tissant une relation intime entre l’image et l’objet, entre le bidimensionnel et le tridimensionnel. L’artiste explore à la fois l’empreinte physique – la trace laissée par une matrice ou un moulage – e son pendant métaphorique : l’empreinte écologique que l’humain laisse sur notre planète. Reflétant sespréoccupations environnementales, les composants de ses œuvres sont constamment réutilisés et se transforment d’une exposition à l’autre. Cet effort soutenu de réemploi questionne la nature même des objets, leur abondance et leur utilité, tout en révélant l’étendue de leur potentiel sculptural et pictural. Ces jardins de ruines est un projet d’exposition qui rassemble un amoncellement d’images et d’objets variés, dont l’iconographie est inspirée du jardin. Les pierres, pavés, colonnes, tonnelles de jardin, etc., servent de dispositifs pour présenter les différentes images imprimées et les sculptures qui la constituent. Les ruines sont des vestiges et fragments architecturaux accumulés et réassemblés par l’artiste. Cette exposition a pris racine lors de précédentes résidences d’exploration (Italie, Métis-sur-Mer et Iles-de-la-Madeleine) où elle a exploré différentes matérialités et techniques d’impression; sérigraphie, impression directe sur objets, gravure et découpe laser, etc. Ici, l’impression, voire l’empreinte, est réfléchie au sens élargi. L’artiste propose des empreintes physiques – qui sont une trace laissée par une matrice et un moulage, mais aussi métaphorique – qui est l’empreinte écologique que l’humain laissera sur cette terre. À travers ses recherches, elle tend à décloisonner l’image imprimée et la sculpture par la mise en relation étroite de l’image-objet, à la fois bidimensionnelle et tridimensionnelle. Enfin, ces œuvres se transforment d’une exposition à l’autre, témoin des considérations environnementales et de l’effort de réutilisation de l’artiste pour interroger la nature des objets, leur abondance, leur usage et mettre à profit toute l’étendue de leur potentiel sculptural et pictural. Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc vit et travaille à Montréal/Tiohtià:ke. Depuis 2018, elle a mis sur pied des expositions individuelles notamment à Drac (Drummondville), à Arprim (Montréal), à la Galerie Sans Nom (Moncton) et à Engramme (Québec). Son parcours a été marqué par plusieurs résidences de recherche au Québec et à l’international. Titulaire d’une maîtrise en arts visuels de l’Université Concordia (2023) ainsi que d’un baccalauréat en arts visuels et médiatiques de l’UQAM (2016), elle effectuera au cours de l’été 2025 une résidence de recherche à Adélard (Frelighsburg). ruine2025 Résidence Immersions à Adélard (Frelighsburg) du 25 juin au 3 août 2025. Lors de cette résidence, j’ai poursuivis mes recherches autour de l’architecture patrimoniale que je découvre en déambulant dans les rues et villages près de Frelighsburg. Je m’intéresse, entre autres, aux entablements, corniches, colonnes, modillons, etc. Cette résidence, me permet jusqu’à présent, une période d’immersion constituée d’aller-retour entre l’exploration sur le terrain et l’expérimentation en atelier. Les empreintes que je réalise sont coulées en plâtre blanc alors que les dispositifs sculpturaux sur lesquels je travaille sont rouge / oxyde de fer. Les couleurs sont inspirés par les granges qui, autrefois, étaient peintes en rouge, pour des raisons historiques et pratiques, principalement liés à la disponibilité et aux propriétés protectrices de l’oxyde de fer. Un oxyde de fer est un composé chimique résultant de la combinaison d’oxygène et de fer, et est principalement présent dans la nature. Une empreinte est un résultat mécanique qui est une marque, en creux ou en relief. [...] C’est le produit de relation matérielle qui donne lieu à un objet [...] Faire une empreinte c’est alors émettre une hypothèse technique, pour voir ce que cela donne, tout simplement. Nos empreintes insulaires est un projet axé sur le territoire géologique et architectural des Îles-de-la-Madeleine. La recherche d'Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc s'articule autour de la notion de fragment. Dans un premier temps, l’artiste a effectué une recherche sur le terrain pour collecter et photographier les éléments géologiques et architecturaux trouvés lors de ses déambulations. Inspirée par ce qui caractérise le paysage, ses matières et ses couleurs, avec une approche qui s'ancre dans le bricolage et la scénographie, l'artiste documente, moule, imprime et découpe le paysage des Îles. L’espace d’exposition présente une sorte d’inventaire géologique fragmenté. À l’intérieur du cubicule d’exposition, on y retrouve des images imprimées, des dessins, des sculptures, des structures en carton minutieusement découpées, des objets trouvés et des morceaux de céramique et de miroir brisés. La mise en espace est foisonnante et coloré. La couleur bleue qui détonne des couleurs naturelles de la pierre, du grès rouge ou du sable, est inspiré par une des maisons situées à Havre-aux-Maisons. Ainsi, telle une archéologue, Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc propose un inventaire non exhaustif d’éléments variés qui définissent et caractérisent cet archipel unique. Nos empreintes insulaires marque le passage de l’artiste en plus de proposer un portrait représentatif, archéologique, géologique et architectural des Îles-de-la-Madeleine tout en accordant une sensibilité aux territoires fragilisées par les derniers évènements météorologiques. Cette résidence a été possible grâce au soutien du Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec et du soutien d’Amare - art actuel.
